Concrete Attenuation Tank – 180,000 Gallon

Spanwright were recently contracted to supply and install concrete flooring for the roof of a surface water attenuation tank in a large scale housing development in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.

The attenuation tank will be used to store storm water exceeding the capacity of the conventional drainage system reducing the risk of flooding and the associated damage that can be caused.

200mm prestressed concrete slabs topped with a 75mm screed were specified by the Spanwright design team to support vehicle loading along with the 500mm depth of grass cover above the storage tank.

The 1700m2 area tank consisted of a 250mm reinforced concrete external wall with 225mm internal block walls with concrete beams spanning between. The concrete floor units required a 100mm end bearing at the support and there were a total of 12 runs of slabs across the width of the tank.

In order to form 8 access openings (600mm x 600mm) a combination of single and double hanger brackets were supplied by Spanwright. This steelwork was galvanised due to the nature of the project.

The Spanwright installation team installed the entire floor area in under 3 days keeping the work program on track and causing little disruption to other site activities.
