Project Overview
Insulated Concrete Form, or ICF Blocks were used in a recent single dwelling build in Co. Cavan. The multi-story, single dwelling was a self-build project and the client selected ICF Blocks for the external walls. The homeowners were particularly focused on building an energy efficient home and the ICF system effectively benefited their thermal mass strategy and also produced an impressive U-value, reducing heating costs significantly.
Product Solution
Wrights supplied all readymix concrete to site which was used for the strip foundations, subfloors and cavity of the ICF blocks. With under floor heating at Ground floor and First floor levels, liquid floor screed was the screed of choice – offering faster heat response times and greater thermal efficiency along with a reduced finished depth and smooth surface ready for direct application of floor finishes.
The first floor slabs included a mixture of reinforced and prestressed hollowcore flooring and the internal balcony was a bespoke unit cast by our skilled technicians. The entire first floor was fitted in just one day by our crew using a mobile crane lorry.
Homeowner, Jennifer Hall is pleased with the outcome;
‘We gave careful consideration to various forms of construction but when it came to the flooring we knew that it had to be hollowcore concrete flooring. After living in various houses with timber joist flooring, we really appreciate the superior level of soundproofing and fire resistance. Wrights have a strong reputation in the region and we were glad to avail of services and products from a company we could trust. We have a strong and sustainable home and would have no hesitation in recommending Wrights.’
